Aging: Weight Training vs. Cardiovascular Training
Guess what? It’s not actually weight training vs. cardiovascular training. Both are important and both do different things to your body. Why did I title it as such? Because that is what every entity that puts out information, does! Clickbait baby!
There is ALWAYS a lot of talk about what we should all be doing at literally every stage of our lives. In my teens and 20’s it was “how to have a flat belly” and “how to be toned and be bikini ready.” When I was pregnant, everything was telling me how to not gain baby weight and how to still look fit during my pregnancy. After having children it was all about how to get my body back. And now in my mid-40’s, it’s how to move and what to eat during the menopause transition and after. You know what? I never bought into any of the hype and I still don’t. I listen and it bugs me. But, instead of believing everything I read I do my own research to double-check all the information we are inundated with, AND I pay attention to how my body feels.
I will say that weight training is a must and cardiovascular training is too. The fact that I can still move furniture or give my sixteen-year-old a piggyback if I have to, feels awesome. And, the fact that I can walk up several flights of stairs or trek up a hillside without it really affecting me, is also awesome. Just stop for a moment and think about all of the things that you want to do in your life and then plan your nutrition, exercise routines, and habits around those things. It will all feel easier and more interesting with goals and dreams in your sights.
